BREAKING: The Trump administration admits in court that they mistakenly deported an innocent Maryland father to a brutal El Salvador mega prison because of “an administrative error” — but claims that they can’t bring him back.
This is MAGA fascism at its most horrifying…
According to a court filing from yesterday, the administration is insisting that Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia can not be returned to the United States because he’s already in Salvadoran custody.
Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran national who was granted protected status by an immigration judge in 2019 after fleeing his birth country to escape violence. Due to that judge’s ruling, the federal government did not have the legal power to deport him.
“On March 15, although ICE was aware of his protection from removal to El Salvador, Abrego Garcia was removed to El Salvador because of an administrative error,” the Trump administration filing stated.
Before deporting him, ICE accused Abrego Garcia of having a “prominent role in MS-13” but his attorneys have stated that he has no ties to the criminal organization.
The so-called evidence that ICE provided to support their allegation is downright insulting. They claimed that the fact that “he was wearing a Chicago Bulls hat and a hoodie” proves that he had gang affiliations and that a “a confidential informant advised that he was an active member of MS-13 with the Westerns clique.”
That “confidential informant” could have been anyone or may not have even existed at all. The Trump administration regularly uses MS-13 to scaremonger and smear innocent people of color.
MAGA pretends that these mass deportations are about removing criminals when in reality they’re designed to rework the country’s demographics to be more white.
Abrego Garcia’s family is suffering enormously as a result of his extrajudicial deportation. He and his wife Jennifer Stefania Vasquez Sura share a child together in addition to two children from her previous relationship.
One of the children is autistic and now Vasquez Sura is being forced to provide for all of them without the support of her husband.
“This has been a nightmare for my family. My faith in God carries me, but I am exhausted and heartbroken. My children need their father,” she wrote in an affidavit.
“I need to know when my husband is coming home,” she added.
